The Route verte introduces the on-line route calculator!

>> par Vélo Québec

Montreal, Thursday, May 3, 2012 – Vélo Québec is pleased to announce a new innovation for Route verte users: the on-line route calculator. Complementing the printed guide Cycling in Québec, this tool helps cyclotourists from here and elsewhere plan their itinerary on an updated network of some 5,000 km.

“With the route calculator, cyclists can more easily navigate through the Route verte, in addition to benefitting from a high level of accuracy,” said Lucie Lanteigne, Executive Director of Vélo Québec Association. “This accuracy stems from Vélo Québec’s mandate for more than 15 years of coordinating the Route verte and updating the cartographic data on its status and complementary services.”

ROUTE CALCULATOR: Planning tool >>>
The on-line cartography of the Route verte allows cyclists to familiarise themselves with the overall network and the services available: construction info updates, tourist information offices, train stations, bus terminals, shuttles, rest areas, stopover towns, water supply points, etc. Thanks to the new route calculator, cyclists can now create their own itinerary and calculate the distance, in addition to enhancing it with extra stages, as well as Bienvenue cyclistes! MD– certified accommodations and campsites. The Route verte route calculator makes vacation planning easy.

PRINTED GUIDE: Travel companion >>>
Once the itinerary has been established, the Cycling in Québec guide is the preferred tool in the field. Published every two years since 1997, the guide was re-edited this spring. In addition to presenting blueprints of the various Route verte bikeways and regional routes (238 maps), the guide identifies a host of services meeting the needs of cyclists during their journey. The Route verte du Québec cycling guide means cycling with peace of mind.

BIENVENUE CYCLISTES!TM: Certified accommodation network for cyclists >>>
Throughout Quebec, whether along the Route verte or a regional bikeway, there are some 500  Bienvenue cyclistes !TM establishments. By choosing a bed and breakfast, hotel, campsite or youth hostel certified under the Bienvenue cyclistes!TM program, cyclotourists are assured a warm welcome and services adapted to their needs.

About the Route verte
Since 1995, the Route verte, an original idea of Vélo Québec, has been developed with the cooperation of an impressive number of local and regional partners and the support of the Ministère des Transports du Québec and the Quebec government. The most extensive cycling network in North America, the Route verte will ultimately comprise over 5,300 km once completed.

Vélo Québec is also an agent of change. Its actions include defending cyclists’ rights, promoting the bicycle as a daily means of commuting to school and work, and guiding governments and municipalities in creating friendly surroundings for pedestrians and cyclists. Vélo Québec has worked for 45 years to provide Quebecers with an optimum cycling environment.
